COATz (Social Action)

COATzLogo4webCOATZ is Congregation Or Ami’s social action group. The purpose of social action is to help others in the community and to repair the world. In a world where we are seeing so much sadness, this is a great opportunity to help make our community a better place.

Here are some of the things we participated in that have been extremely meaningful:

  • We volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. We made breakfast for the families staying there and visited with them.
  • We participated in Warming Philly, which is clothing people in the local area with coats and warm clothing.
  • We volunteered at Cradles for Crayons by sorting through clothing that goes to impoverished families.
  • We participated in “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” through the Laurel House. “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” is an international men’s march that consists of men who walk one mile in high-heeled shoes as a symbol of putting themselves in the shoes of victims of gender and sexual violence.
  • We hosted “Stop Hunger Now” by packaging 10,000 meals for people starving all over the world.
  • We partnered with JAFCO (Jewish adoption and family care options) and provided Chanukah wishes for children who are staying there.
  • We provided Thanksgiving dinners and delivered them to local families.
  • We collected items for the Norristown Ministry, which is a day shelter in Norristown that provides showers and meals for homeless people.
  • We helped local families that are struggling by collecting gift cards and items for them.
  • We volunteered at SHARE which helps brings 24.6 million pounds of emergency food relief to low-income families in Philadelphia.

We know that everyone is very busy but it feels so good to participate in these different things. We hope that you will consider joining COATz in some of these things. We are always looking for new ideas and looking for people to help on the committee. It’s a minimal time commitment.

Please contact Deb Delano Brenner at if you are available to help on the committee or would like to participate.
